PROJECT :    FROM THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA TO MOSTAR

            Afyon Kocatepe University Folklore Research and Practice Center is planning to prepare a dance show called “From the Great Wall of China to Mostar” with the students from the universities of Turkic world which cover the area from the Central Asia to the Balkans. The main aim of this project, which will be prepared with the students from this geography, is to draw a picture of Turkic cultural world and to present the Turkic culture which has an important place in the world history and today.
Another aim of this project is to enhance folk dances which have been the prominent part of our living culture and to increase the number of artistic and cultural activities.  Another point in consideration is to prepare a Turkish World Museum in our campus where Turkish Folklore materials will be displayed.

*This project will be realized between 20-23 March 2009 at Afyon Kocatepe University.

*Meeting dates collapse with Nevruz celebrations which has an important place in the Turkic world and this will make our studies more meaningful.

             Agenda of the meeting in Afyon: Below mentioned subjects will be discussed with the group leaders. The students coming with the leaders will do experimental dance practices among themselves during the meetings.

              Aim of the meeting: How to form the group, how to prepare the music for the group, decision of the performance costumes, future plans for the group – where and when to perform, how to train the group and how to prepare a shared budget will be discussed.  
The aim of the Turkic world project is to bring together the Turkish culture which is still alive in Central Asia, Asia Minor, Rumelia and Europe in a shared project.

SUBJECTS :

Study Topics: Targets to be discussed at the 20-23 March 2009 meeting in Afyon

1-Music: Preparation of performance music is aimed. With this study, groups will try to combine their music with other partners' music in a single melody. Participating universities will discuss the suitability of their regional music with the traditional musical form of other participants.
2-DANCE: A common dance workshop will be done. Groups coming from different region will try to combine their traditional dances with dance figures of other groups.
3-COSTUME: Participating groups will try to add the elements of their traditional costumes into the performance. Costumes studies will be done with the costumes brought from the countries.
4-PERFORMANCE: A performance date in 2009 will be defined. This meeting will define the duration of the performance, working principles and the representatives will be chosen.
5-BUDGET: Groups coming from the participating countries will come with proposals of budget sources. These sources can be their own budgets, ministry of culture, international Turkic world institutions or else.
